Fractions Without Fear: A Simple Mental Model
Fractions are just slices. Here's a picture-first way to teach them.
If your student panics at the sight of 3/4, start with pictures, not symbols.
Use a pizza
Draw a circle. Cut it into 4. Color in 3. You just showed 3/4.
Compare visually
Draw 1/2 next to 1/4 and ask which slice is bigger. The picture answers before the math does.
